People On The Move

We finished our 90 second film for People on the Move!!! I was made up to say the least after completing this as it was my first film id made since joining the course, and i feel film making is my strong point when it comes to media. Our film was of a man visiting his own grave but he starts on his journey as a young boy, progressively getting older as he walks through the graveyard. I think we showed off our editing in this film, and that was key to making our film as good as it could be. We also had the song "Mad World" played over it which fitted perfectly into the film. The film left the audience guessing as to wether he was a ghost or, he was just ageing etc but tbh ... We didnt know ourselves we just thought it was a great idea, in our group we worked brilliantly aswell all being on location to film, trying different angles between the 4 of us to see which was right and we came together to create a really good 1st film.

Scene Analysis

For film language we had been set our 1st task. To write a scene analysis on a scene of our own choice from any film, describing the scene shot by shot. I found this getting quite repetitive as i chose to do my analysis on 'Sin City' which is a Neo-Noir film, so the majority of my analysis had only a few differences in each shot via the camera angles and camera movement. I thought i had done quite well though, as i am quite good at analysing and looking deeper into an image.

Sequential Imagery

We were set the task to create a short story using only 5 images that told a story, quite similar to the storyboard we had to do, however this would be alot more difficult having to fit the whole story within just 5 photo's. The important thing for me was to make sure it made sense, I didnt mind about whether it was the best storyline in the word i just wanted the story to be simple, enough for the audience to know what was happening. So we chose our story to be about someone aiming to throw some scrunched up paper into a bin, leaving it to end on a cliff hanger as to whether it went in or not as the last image was of it hitting the rim of the bin, i was happy with it as it was simple, but effective.

Storyboard

Today we handed in our Storyboards for our 1st piece of actual work that will be marked and we will be graded on! Our storyboard was called Speed Dating and was simple but effective, using various camera angles and camera shots, the narrative was of a man who seen his girlfriend with another man, becoming jealous. He then automatically thinks that she has left him, going on to a Speed Dating event in his local pub. After going through various women who don't take his fancy he leaves, but then see' his girlfriend working there, and then his girlfriend reveals that she was actually meeting the man she was seen with for an interview for a job in the pub the Speed Dating took place. Awwwwwwww! We have now been set our 2nd task to create a film called "People on the move" and are holding a production meeting on Thursday at about 2pm, I have already thought of a few ideas, However I like the sound of one in which it is pouring down with rain and I gradually undress down to a pair of swimming shorts and a vest with sun glasses on, then lay down on the grass for the sun to come out! I think its do-able but weather will obviously be a pain! Hopefully the rest will like the idea, or have a better one.

Favourite Item/Object

We were asked to bring in a significant object that meant something to us, I chose to present my V festival band, for me this was a very important object because it was the last opportunity for me and my friends to do something before we went our separate ways off to various universities and jobs. We then talked in a small group about our items and then made a Prezi. Prezi was a new software to all of us and was a software similar to PowerPoint Presentation, but instead of a page by page presentation, you could move about more freely on the one page zooming, rotating and all sorts of other stuff, it was very user friendly and became quite familiar to me after a short time. We then presented our Prezi to the rest of the class, which i didn't particularly like because I'm not 100% confident speaking in front of people, but i felt it went well, and found that a lot of the class chose their items for the same reason as I did.
